Course Description
What is this course about?
This course is a practical, work-based route into a creative career in the media industry. Pupils combine theoretical learning with hands-on experience, allowing you to gain important skills and qualifications in relation to the creative sector. The explore their creative side, develop a creative portfolio of work, and adopt industry-specific skills.
This course is delivered in partnership with Screen Education Edinburgh, with two sessions per week at Screen Education Edinburgh – and the remaining time in the partner school.
The facilities include industry standard filmmaking cameras, lighting and sound equipment, filmmaking accessories such as tracks, gimbles, and more. They have 6 edit suites with built in industry leading software, a costume and props studio, adjustable film sets and a cinema room.
How is the course assessed?
There are no exams. Pupils will be assessed through their portfolio and coursework through the year. The course comprises of 4 NPA units, 6 work-based units and a media project unit:
Intro to Creative Industries: Explore the creative industries and different employment and progression opportunities within it.
Understanding the Creative Process: Research and develop your own creative concepts for screen.
Understanding Creative Briefs: Analyse different examples of creative briefs and learn how to them when developing creative content.
Creative Industries: Storytelling: Develop your own creative story ideas to industry standard
Work Effectively with Others in the Creative Industries: Gain practical experience by working alongside and under the supervision of SEE staff in a professional environment. Develop new skills and take on responsibilities that reflect industry standards.
Health and Safety in the Creative Workplace: Understand the importance of health and safety within a professional setting. Participate in site walkthroughs, fire drills, and contribute to creating risk assessments.
Prepare for and Conduct Interviews in Creative Media: Research and plan an interview with a working professional in the creative industries. Organise and conduct the interview to a high standard, presenting it in a style of your choice.
